Donald Gordon Obituary

Donald Gordon, a cherished family man and pillar of the Midland City community, passed away naturally on April 9, 2024, at the age of 63. Born on August 28, 1960, in Malvern, Alabama, to the late Roy C. Gordon and Cressie Mae Cogman Gordon. Donald was known for his heart of gold and unwavering commitment to his loved ones and faith.

After moving to Midland City in 1974, Donald quickly became a beloved member of the community. He graduated from Dale County High School in 1979, where he played football and established lifelong friendships. Donald's work ethic and dedication were evident in his long-standing career at Sabel Steel Industry, where he contributed his talents for 44 years.

Donald's life was a testament to love and service. He married his sweetheart, Ester, and together they shared 44 years of devotion, raising their daughter, LaTanya Renae Gordon-Buchanan. Donald's legacy continued as PawPaw, through his adored grandchildren, Destinee Buchanan, Sabria Hammonds, and Savein Hammonds; his godchildren, Ylanda Wesley, Laudynn Barrow, and Cameron Rodgers who brought him immense joy. Donald also leaves behind his brothers, Terry Gordon (Annette) and Timmy Gordon, as well as his loving sisters, Esther Fields and Jackie Salter. Donald leaves behind a host of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, brother in laws, and sister in laws and many other family members and friends.

A routine-oriented and organized man, Donald took pleasure in life's simple tasks. He took pride in his lawn care, always ensuring his home was welcoming and well-maintained. Despite being a laid-back individual, his presence was a source of strength and reliability for all who knew him.

Donald's love for his family was only matched by his deep faith. A God-fearing man, he grew up attending Burdeshaw Street Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, and later became an active member of Dothan First Church. His faith-filled life was an inspiration to many, and he was often described as loving, selfless, and a true embodiment of Christian values.

Throughout his life, Donald was a beacon of selflessness, consistently putting others above himself. He was only an Alabama fan to keep the peace in the house, a humorous nod to his accommodating nature. His love for R&B old school music filled his home with warmth and memories.

Donald Gordon will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His spirit will continue to guide and inspire us, and his memory will forever be etched in our hearts.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024 at Dothan First Church at 1pm with Pastor Mark Benson officiating. The family will be receiving friends from 12-1pm the day of the service at the church. Donald will be laid to rest in Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery. After the graveside, there will be a repass at Dothan First Church where all friends and family may gather.
