Fred Fellows Obituary

Fred Fellows, known affectionately as Fred to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 15, 2024, in Abbeville, Alabama, at the age of 75. Born on August 30, 1948, in Dothan, Alabama, Fred's life was a testament to his courage, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his community.

After graduating from Ashford High School, he joined the Army National Guard, dedicating several years to serving his country. His sense of duty led him to a distinguished 28-year career with the Dothan Police Department, where he served valiantly on the SWAT team before retiring as Sergeant of Investigations. Fred's dedication to his fellow officers was further demonstrated by his 50-year membership in the Fraternal Order of Police, and his active involvement with the Elk Lodge.

Throughout his life, Fred's love for the outdoors was evident in his enthusiasm for hunting and fishing. He was a man of particular tastes and carried a sense of order into every aspect of his life, which his family affectionately recognized as his unique brand of OCD. These traits, combined with his warm heart and bravery, made him a cherished member of his community.

Fred is survived by his son, Brandon Fellows (Amberly Ivey Fellows), and daughter, Brandee Fellows Dupree. His legacy continues through his four grandchildren, Stone Christopher Dupree, Spencer Coleman Dupree, Gage Colin Fellows, and Cayson Sawyer Fellows. Fred also leaves behind his brothers, Matt Fellows and Mark Fellows, and sister, Deborah Bumpers, along with several nieces and nephews, all of whom shared in the joys and challenges of life with Fred.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Fred L. Fellows, Jr. and Faye Wofford Fellows, who instilled in him the values of integrity and compassion that he carried throughout his life.

In retirement, Fred found serenity by the shores of Lake Eufaula, where he could often be found immersed in nature, casting a line into the water or scouting the woods for game. His presence at the lake will be deeply missed, as will the stories and laughter he shared with all who knew him.

Fred's life was a mosaic of service, love for his family, and dedication to the causes he held dear. His was a life well-lived, marked by the countless lives he touched with his courage and kindheartedness. As we bid farewell to Fred Fellows, we celebrate the enduring impact he has left on his family, friends, and community.

A celebration of Fred's life will be held on Friday, April 19th at 11:00am at Ashford Cemetery. The family will receive friends there from 10am until 11am.
