James Still Obituary

James "Ken" Still, a man known for his infectious humor, generous spirit, and profound love for his family, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, in Alabaster, Alabama, at the age of 75. Born on September 8, 1948, in Bay Minette, Alabama, Ken's early years were shaped by the warm community of his birthplace. As he grew, he carried the values of his upbringing throughout his life.

Ken graduated from Andalusia High School in 1966, a place where he left an indelible mark with his jovial nature and kindness. After moving to Dothan in 1983, he embarked on a successful career in the insurance industry, working with Liberty National and Allstate Insurance before establishing the Ken Still Agency. His professional life was marked by fairness and a commitment to giving others a second chance, reflecting his deeply compassionate character.

Ken's dedication to his community was evident through his service on the board for the Children's Home and as an active member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church. His sense of duty also extended to his country, with Ken proudly serving in the US Air Force for four years, including a period during the Vietnam War. His service was a testament to his love for his nation and the values he stood for.

Away from work and community service, Ken was a family man at heart. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Cheryl Still, his daughter Stephanie Howard and her husband Dewayne, and his cherished grandchildren, Logan and Blake Howard. Ken also leaves behind his brothers, Ronnie Still, Donnie Still, Ricky McDonald, and Alan McDonald, and his sister, Bobby Jean McMillan, as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Chris Still, and his parents, James McDonald and Estelle Still.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Ken will remember him for his humor and his ability to strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He never met a stranger and was always willing to lend an ear or a helping hand. His generosity extended beyond his immediate circle, as he was known for giving anonymously, ensuring that his acts of kindness were felt rather than seen.

Ken's legacy is one of love and laughter. He was a man who worked tirelessly to provide for his family and brought joy to those around him. His presence will be dearly missed, but his memory will live on through the countless lives he touched with his funny, generous, and loving nature.

As we say goodbye to Ken, we celebrate a life well-lived - a life filled with laughter, service, and profound generosity. He was a beacon of light in the lives of many, and his spirit will continue to inspire those who knew him to live with the same compassion and warmth he embodied.

Ken's life was commemorated in a private ceremony attended by his family and closest friends. He was laid to rest with the dignity and respect he deserves, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and an unwavering commitment to his community and country. Ken's departure leaves a void in the hearts of many, but the memories he created will be cherished forever.
