A. Gary Jones, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2009 at his residence following a lengthy illness. He was 58.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity with Rev. Ede Plovanich officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m Monday. At all other times the family will be at 128 Glencoe Way, Dothan.Mr. Jones was born to Troy Jefferson Jones and Martha Allie Dennard Jones of Albany, GA on October 24, 1950. He graduated from Albany High School in 1968. He earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of Georgia in 1972 and went to work for Albany Electric Supply Company. In 1976, he moved to Mobile working with Westinghouse and transferred to Dothan in 1978. In 1982, he opened his own business, Alabama Electrical Wholesalers, where he served as President until 1993. He then changed careers and earned a Juris Doctorate degree from Jones School of Law and practiced law until his death. He was an accomplished photographer, boatsman and aviator, certified to fly both single and twin-engine planes. His love for golf led him yearly to the Masters Golf Tournament in Augusta. He loved being outdoors, whether it was on a tractor, four-wheeler or hunting in the woods. His passion was being around the water, both in Panama City and Lake Eufaula. He was a certified scuba diver and an avid fisherman. He was an animal lover, always surrounded by his faithful dogs, Nick and Sunny.Gary was a past member of the Dothan Rotary Club and the Dothan Country Club.
