Addie Mae Davis, 80, a resident of Dothan passed away on Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

rnFuneral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at McMullan Chapel at Baptist Village with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at McMullan Chapel.

Addie Mae Davis nee Bradley was born in Henry County on May 21, 1928. She was the third child and the only girl of a sib ship of five, born to the late Booker T. and Estelle Bradley. As an infant she received a Christian Baptism at the Center Baptist Church in Newville, Alabama. Her childhood was spent living on a farm where she learned the values of hard work and family unity. In 1945, as a young adult, she married the late Curtis C. Bighem and gave birth to one son. She joined the Shiloh Baptist Church of Headland, Alabama and in 1954 she united in holy matrimony to the late Earnest Davis. She dedicated herself to blending the two families consisting of her baby boy and his three children one girl and two boys. Together, she and Earnest built a thriving home and a construction company; open to family and friends. Her beloved husband died suddenly in 1986. Seeking spiritual rejuvenation she joined Christ Church International and rejoiced in being reborn in Christ. She served in many of the church’s ministries and diligently studied the Bible and shared her insights regarding God’s grace with all the people she engaged in conversation. She remained a loyal member of Christ Church International until her death. Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands and brothers, Hillard and Joe.

rnShe leaves to cherish her memory, one loving son, James Charles Minnie Bighem of Headland, AL.; three step-children, Dr. La-Don Jackson-Davis of Bellwood IL., Earnestine Garrett of Woodbridge, VA. and Rev. Charles Edward Robbie Mae Davis of Newville, AL.; two brothers, William Bradley of Blakely, GA., Jack Mary Alice Bradley of Newville, AL.; one sister-in-law, Janie Moore of West Palm Beach, FL.; 6 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
