Albert J. “Al” Roberts, a resident of Dothan passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2010 at a local hospital. He was 69.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 am on Monday, January 3, 2011 at St. Columba Catholic Church with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Sunday at the funeral home with a Prayer Service at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Columba Church Capital Campaign, 2700 W. Main St., Dothan, AL, 36303, or to the Alzheimer’s Resource Center, 1314 Westgate Pkwy, Dothan, AL, 36303.Mr. Roberts was born February 6, 1941 in Columbus, OH and lived there the early years of his life. He attended the University of Miami in Oxford, Ohio and later joined the U.S. Air Force serving for three and a half years. Following his military service he attended Broadcasting School and worked in Defuniak Springs, FL for WDSP. He moved to Dothan in 1972 and worked at WTVY for 34 years until his retirement in 2006 as the Sports Director. Al was a member and Past President of Dothan Kiwanis Club, a Board Member of Alzheimer’s Association, the Red Cross, and the Wiregrass Sports Hall of Fame, and for 25 years he was a voter for the Heisman Trophy Award. He was a member of St. Columba Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife Cathy Roberts of Dothan; sons, Greg Roberts of Atlanta, GA and Steven Roberts of Biloxi, MS; sisters, Rosemary Simmons Ted of Columbus, OH and Peggy Roberts of Columbus, OH; nieces and nephews, Angela Shamell, Rhonda Houston, Paul Haigh, Michele Ritzman, Jill Howard, and Heather Watson; several great-nieces and nephews. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
