Alfred Bohannan

March 14, 1934 — April 8, 2019

During the late evening of Monday April 8th, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend Alfred "Bo" Bohannan peacefully departed this life at his residence surrounded by loved ones. Bo was a truly unique, remarkable character with a legendary wit and sense of humor. He made a huge impact in his 85 years in this world, once met he was never forgotten. He was born on March 14th, 1934 in Pharr, Texas to Richard and Nettie Mae Smith Bohannan. During his youth he excelled at academics and athletics. Fifty-nine was his lucky number and a repeating theme throughout his life. He played jersey number 59 in high school football. After graduation he traveled extensively for a few years, then he was drafted into the U.S. Army 59th Regiment. While in the Army he was stationed in Alabama, where he met his true love Faye. They married on June 18th, 1959. They then in settled down in Dothan, had two children and lived a full life together. After leaving the service he worked at Stokes Floor Covering from 1959 until his retirement in 2001. He and Faye were proud members and former presidents of the Goober Gambleers Square Dancing Club where they made many great memories and cherished friends. He loved Alabama football, playing online poker, and woodworking He is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Nettie Mae, four siblings Richard, Mervin, Mary, and Jennette and very dear sister-in-law Elaine Holman Berg. Family was extremely important to him. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Faye Creamer Bohannan. Bo's pride and joy were his children and grandchildren; Daughter Melonie Saunders, and husband Bruce; Son Gregory Bohannan and wife Melissa; Grandchildren Samantha Saunders 32, Jake Bohannan 21, and Brett Bohannan 16; Two special nieces Lisa Holman and Leigh Barham; Beloved Brother-in-law Jack Berg; Cherished family friend Elizabeth Smith. Our family would like to thank the following people for their loving, kind care before, during and after Bo's passing: Dr. Paola Bass and the staff of Internal Medicine Associates, the Dothan Fire Department, officer Brad Strickland of the Dothan Police Department, and Robert Byrd and the staff of Sunset Funeral Home. As per his wishes no formal service will be conducted, however the family will receive friends and share memories of Bo at 2:00 pm on Saturday, April 13, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home.
