Anna Clanton Smith

November 27, 1957 — September 21, 2016

Anna Clanton Smith passed away on Wednesday, September 21, 2016.  She was 58.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Friday, September 23, 2016 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Johnny Celzo officiating.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 5-7 pm with a prayer service being held at 6 pm.

Anna was born in Thomasville, Alabama on November 27, 1957 and lived the early years of her life there.  She attended Mississippi University for Women, UAB, and received her Master's Degree from Georgia Tech in Radiation Physics.  Anna resided in Montgomery before moving to Dothan in 1992.  She loved being at the beach, especially taking long walks and watching the sun slowly sink into the horizon.  Anna enjoyed spending time with her beloved dogs, Bruno, Foxy, and Lucy.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Benjamin Lamar and Dovie Freeman Clanton.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. Smith, who cared for her until the end; her son, Patrick Lee Smith; and her daughter, Christina Marie Smith.  She leaves four beloved brothers and their families:  Benjamin Frederick and Kathryn Clanton of Asheville, Alabama; David Lamar and Ann Clanton of Repton, Alabama; John Donald and Reba Clanton of Thomasville, Alabama; and Joseph Michael Clanton of Jackson, Alabama.  She is also survived by Patricia Clanton of Webb, Alabama.  Her nieces and nephews brought much joy to her life.  She leaves behind her chosen sister, Mary Alice Crum, of Birmingham, Alabama.

She also leaves behind her work family at Bay Regional Cancer Center in Panama City , Florida and many dear friends.
