Anne Virginia Jernigan

June 23, 1950 — April 23, 2025

Anne Virginia Jernigan, lovingly known as Anne to her friends and family, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2025, at the age of 74 in Dothan, Alabama. Born on June 23, 1950, in Longview, Texas, Anne was a beacon of kindness and selflessness throughout her life, touching the hearts of everyone she encountered.

Anne was the cherished matriarch of a family that adored her deeply. She is survived by her devoted sons, Bill Gamble (Jen) and Ken Gamble (Dee), who will forever remember her nurturing spirit. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren, Damian, Michael, Caden, and Dane Gamble, who lovingly called her "Nana" and will miss her gentle guidance and unconditional love. Anne's siblings, Karen Hartin (Gene) and Beth Repp (Mark), will hold onto the fond memories of their sister whose presence brightened their lives. Her special friends, Lisa Shepard and Rosemary, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends, will miss the warmth and generosity that Anne so freely gave.

Anne's life was one of constant movement and adaptation, having grown up with a military father. This experience shaped her into a resilient and adaptable woman, capable of finding joy and making friends wherever she went. Despite the many changes in her life, Anne maintained close relationships with her childhood friends, a testament to her loyalty and the deep bonds she formed.

Her journey through education began at Hardaway High School in Columbus, Georgia, and continued as she pursued her passion for helping others by obtaining her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Wallace Community College and Troy University. Anne's career as a cardiac nurse at Southeast Medical Center was marked by her compassionate care and the countless lives she touched. Her colleagues and patients alike will remember her as a dedicated healthcare professional who went above and beyond to provide comfort and healing.

Anne's faith was an integral part of her life, and she found spiritual fulfillment attending Piney Grove United Methodist Church. Her church family will remember her as a steadfast and loving presence, always ready to lend a helping hand or offer a kind word.

A simple, southern lady at heart, Anne found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a profound love for the outdoors and took great delight in tending to her flowers, which brought beauty to her surroundings and joy to those who witnessed her garden. Anne's love for her grandchildren was boundless, and she cherished every moment spent with them, leaving behind a treasure trove of memories that they will carry with them always.

Anne was preceded in death by her beloved spouse, David M. Jernigan, who shared her life's journey until his passing. She was also predeceased by her parents, William and Joan Bryant, who loving called her “Red” and her brother, Michael Bryant, who have now welcomed her into eternal peace.
