Aubrey Loren Helms

Aubrey Loren Helms, a resident of Slocomb, AL passed away on Thursday, July 6, 2017 at a local hospital. He was 49 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Union Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Ridgecrest Baptist Church, 1231 Fortner Street, Dothan, AL, 36301.

Loren was born on February 11, 1968 in Dothan, AL and lived in Slocomb all of his life. He was a 1986 graduate of Slocomb High School and a 1991 graduate of Auburn University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was employed with Wiregrass Electric Cooperative as their 1st Electrical Engineer; later was employed with the City of Dothan Utilities. He has been employed with Farley Nuclear Plant for the past 10 years. Loren was a very talented musician and been playing the trombone since the age of 12 and learned to play all brass instruments. He was orchestra director at Ridgecrest Baptist Church for over 10 years. Loren was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, as well as a lifetime member of the NRA and gun enthusiast.

Survivors include his wife Sarah Helms; son, Quentin Helms; daughter, Alexa Helms; parents, Jimmy and Elaine Helms; father and mother-in-law, Heyward and Rhetta Butler; brother, Wade (Barbara) Helms; nephew, Jared (Britney) Helms; great-nieces and nephew, Georgia Lynn, Wesson, and Caraline Helms; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
