Barbara Smith Waters was born in Dothan, AL on September 26, 1909 to the union of Thomas and Anna Nelson Smith deceased. Barbara a.k.a. Aunt, Mrs. Bobbie as she was so lovingly called, had a peaceful home going at the beautiful age of 105 on Thursday May 21, 2015 at Extended Care Health and Rehabilitation Facility.

November 21, 1941 Barbara and John Henry Waters was united in Holy Matrimony. To this union no children. The Lord had a plan for Barbara, to be surrounded by many children in Dothan, the wiregrass area, and in the state of Alabama, through her missionary work.

She accepted Christ at an early age, and joined Adams Street Missionary Baptist Church, Dothan, AL; she was a faithful and dedicated servant to her church and community. She was a member of the “Out Reach Committee” of Greater Beulah Baptist Church. To all who she touched “May the life I’ve lived and the work I’ve done speak for me”.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Tommy Smith, Meigs, GA; Mose Smith, Dothan, AL; one sister Eula Bell Whitfield, Dothan, AL.

She was employed with The McKinney Family of Dothan, AL for more than 70 years. Barbara gained another family, who loved her, and she loved them. Leslie Ann, Kip Espy deceased and Bill a.k.a. “Snapper” who we know were on the “Young and the Restless” for several years. This was Aunt Bobbie favorite soap opera.

In 2000 Bill plan a trip for Barbara, Ramona Cleveland, Leslie Ann and David Wright to Israel. Barbara was 90 years old, when she toured the city of Jerusalem. People were being baptized in the Jordan River. Barbara also toured Italy at the graceful age of 101. Thank you Bill for a wonderful trip.

She leaves to cherish her memory and preserve her legacy; special friend and earthly sister, Ramona Cleveland, Dothan, AL; daily companion, Edna Brooks, Dothan, AL; loyal and dedicated cousin, Johnnie and Sharon Nelson, Panama City, FL; nieces, Alma Colvin, Geraldine Moss, Belvia Jones, Dothan, AL, Johnnie Ruth Western, Muskegon, MI, Ella Mae Peterson, Flint, MI; great nieces, Countess Saffold, Panama City, FL, Renee Smith, Panama City, FL, and a host of nieces and nephews.

The family of Barbara Smith Waters would like to extend a special thank you to Extended Care Health and Rehabilitation Facility Administration, nursing staff who made her stay a pleasant one.

A message from Aunt Bobbie. . .

I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:

I Shall Not Pass This Way Again

Through this toilsome world, alas,

Once and only once I pass,

If a good deed I may do,

If a kindness I may show

To a suffering fellow man,

Let me do it while I can,

No delay for it is plain

I shall not pass this way again.
