Dr. Bennie Foshee Mason of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Flowers Hospital.
rnA memorial service celebrating his life will be held 5 pm Friday, April 1, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home. The family will receive visitors there for half an hour preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the American Cancer Society or Lymphoma and Leukemia Society.

rnBorn in Andalusia, Alabama, Ben graduated from Pleasant Home High School in 1957 with seven other classmates. After studying at the University of Alabama and Auburn University, he was accepted to Officer Candidate School at Lackland AFB, Texas. He went on to serve as a navigator in the USAF, completing tours in Germany, the Belgian Congo, and Vietnam. He received a special commendation from the United States Strike Command for his service in the United States Joint Task Force in the Congo. Having obtained the rank of Captain, he left the Air Force and returned to Auburn University to complete his Bachelor’s degree in accounting, again distinguishing himself with honors. rnAfter 15 years in corporate finance and accounting in the Southeast and Midwest, Ben returned to graduate school, obtaining his MBA from the University of Alabama and his Ph. D in Business Administration from Florida State University. He was named 1998 faculty member of the year for the Business and Communication Department at the Mississippi University for Women. He has served on the graduate faculty for Troy University Florida Region for the last 13 years, teaching strategic planning and management. He loved life, a good joke, his dog, and his grandchildren. His hobbies included traveling, genealogy, cooking, photography, and an ambassadorship to Maker’s Mark. rnDr. Mason is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol Mason; daughter, Angela Mason of Dothan; son, Benjamin C. Mason Liliana of Memphis; two grandchildren, Ana and Max Mason; sister Judy Miller John of Midland City; sister Jenny Manning Bruce of Dothan; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Foshee Mason and Mary Alderman Mason. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
