Bertha Mae Gunn, affectionally known as Honey, was born on February 16, 1942, in Brent, Alabama, to the late Preston and Margaret Sanders Dobbins. She attended Alabama State University and was employed by the Houston County Health Department. Bertha served the Lord through serving others. Some of her hobbies included gardening and retail therapy. However, Bertha enjoyed spending time with family, and she was well known for her exquisite cooking and baking talents. This humble servant of God with a warrior spirit would boldly tell others, "I'm Praying on my Knees standing up."

Her legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of everyone she interacted with as well as those she reached but never met. Those that loved her called her Honey, Granny, Mama Bertha, Gigi, and Ma Bert. She has never been just a Mother or Grandmother but a loyal friend to many and an inspiration to all who knew her. Mrs. Gunn was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie H. Gunn, Sr. and her grandchild, Ashley Marie Bouldin.

She leaves as a legacy her sons, Eddie H. (Evangeline) Gunn, Jr., John Preston (Vanessa) Gunn, and Gregory Gunn; her daughters, Michelle Gunn, Elizabeth Pleshette (Ronald) Bouldin, Jacquette Denise Gunn, and Amanda (Calvin) Gunn-Jennings; her 15 grandchildren and her 11 great-grandchildren.

Others that will also cherish her memories are her loving sister, Gloria Ruth Young; her two nieces, her great-nephew and close friends, Tammie Johnson and Sonya Peterson, and a host of extended family and friends.
