Bessie White Stieringer

Bessie White Stieringer, age 100, of 82 Wood Street, Cottonwood, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2017 in Southeast Alabama Medical Center after a short illness.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, May 22, 2017 at 2:00 pm in the Cottonwood City Cemetery with Rev. Richard Smith officiating and Robert Byrd of Sunset Memorial Park directing. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Cottonwood Senior Citizens Center, PO Box 447, Cottonwood, AL 36320.

Mrs. Stieringer was born in Houston County on September 30, 1916, the daughter of Daniel Leon White and Eula Harper White. She lived the early part of her life in Cottonwood and was a member of Cottonwood First Baptist Church and the Cottonwood Senior Citizen Center. Mrs. Stieringer was a Civil Service employee for 31 years, retiring from Homestead Air Force Base. She returned to Cottonwood in 1980.

Mrs. Stieringer was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Stieringer, by her brothers, John C. White and Dan White, by her sisters, Elizabeth Whitehead and Willie Chapman.

Survivors include her sister, Sallie Bentley; her brother, Jim (Judy) White; her nieces and nephews, JoAnne (Ronnie) Owens, Linda (Paul) Long, Charles Morris (Grace) White, Max Chapman, and James Robert White; several great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.
