Beth Martin Brown

May 18, 1918 — August 27, 2014

Beth Martin Brown, a longtime resident of Dothan, died Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham after a brief illness.  She was 96.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 29, 2014 at the First Baptist Church of Dothan with Dr. Harper Shannon and Dr. Johnny Fain officiating.  Burial will follow at Memory Hill Cemetery.  The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alabama Baptist Children’s Home, P.O. Box 361767, Birmingham, Alabama 35236 or First Baptist Church, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, Alabama 36303.

Beth was born March 18, 1918 in Enterprise, Alabama to Pearl and Annie Walker Martin.  She was a member of First Baptist Church for 72 years.  She served through the years as a Sunday School teacher, GA leader, and on numerous committees.  She was a past active member of the Dothan Service League.

Beth was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Myron Brown, and her son-in-law, James Jerry Teel, Sr.  She is survived by two daughters, Claire Brown Gwaltney Robert Milton, Sr. Vestavia Hills, Alabama; Jane Brown Teel Opelika, Alabama; three grandsons, Robert Milton Gwaltney, Jr. Elizabeth, Philip Myron Gwaltney Caroline both of Vestavia Hills, Alabama and James Jerry Teel, Jr., Katie Auburn, Alabama; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Jane Teel, Mobile, Alabama; and two great-grandsons, Robert Graham Gwaltney and Bennett Hughes Gwaltney, Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

Pallbearers will be Mac Carpenter, Wayne Edison, Gene Faulkner, Johnny Jones, Harold Miller, Cecil Sanders and Phil Shealy.

Burial Date: January 1, 1970
