Bill Adkison

January 26, 1926 — September 25, 2014

Hollan “Bill” Adkison, 88, of Dothan passed away September 25, 2014 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 3pm Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Churchwell, nephew, and Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 1pm until 3pm. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Mr. Adkison was born January 26, 1926 in Hacoda, Alabama and spent the early part of his life there. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army. Following his military service he served with the Dothan Police Department for over 25 years until his retirement in 1974. He owned and operated Dothan Sharpening Services following his law enforcement career. Mr. Adkison was very patriotic and loved the American Flag. He was a lifetime member of the Dothan Elk's Lodge, the DAV, the VFW, the American Legion, and the Alabama Peace Officers Association.

Mr. Adkison was preceded in death by his parents, William Duncan and Jessie Burkett Adkison; a son Thomas Adkison; a grandson Jeremy Bruce; 2 brothers, Marlin Adkison and Emmitt Adkison, and 2 sisters, Lois Thielen and Lavelle Churchwell.

Survivors include his wife Mary Evelyn Adkison; his children, Travis Peggy Adkison, Renay Bruce and Gary Cathy Bruce; grandchildren, Megan Knight, Heather Joe Brooks, and Trent Robin Adkison; great-grandchildren, Taylor Bruce, Anna Claire Brooks, J. Cole Brooks, and Dalice Adkison; sisters, Annette Richard Griffin and Pat Don Allen.
