Billy Joe Bond, a man of great humor and faith, passed into the realm of eternal rest on the 7th of May, in the year of our Lord 2023. Born on the 18th of March, 1932, in Houston County, Alabama, he was the son of the late Johnnie J.D. and Ethel Mae Johnson Bond, husband of the late Ouida M. Bond, and brother to the late Johnnie Ray Bond. He is survived by his beloved brothers Doyle Bond, Foster "Bo" Bond, and Lynn Bond.
In the prime of his youth, Billy Joe was a proud servant of his country, taking up arms in the United States Army for two years and earning the distinction of being a veteran of the Korean War. Upon his return, he embarked upon a fruitful career as a salesman of John Deere heavy equipment with Jeffcoat Equipment, where he built lasting friendships and earned the respect of his peers.
Billy Joe, a man of strong Christian faith, was blessed with a bountiful family, surrounded by the love of his sons and daughters-in-law, Steve "Cowboy" (Patti) Bond, Ricky (Selena) Bond, and Kim (June) Bond. He was a doting grandfather to Corey (Bri) Bond, Hunter (Melinda) Bond, Delancey (Tate) Fowler, Lindsey (Richard) Meadows, Candace (Drew) Johnston, Katie (Holden) Thomley, Magan (Joseph) Parker, and Matt (Christine) Bond, and great-grandfather to 18 great-grandchildren, and his memory shall live on in their hearts and minds.
In his leisure, Billy Joe was a passionate fisherman, often venturing to many fishing locations throughout the Tri-state area. A true family man, he took great delight in hosting fish fries, gathering his kin and friends around the table to share in laughter, love, and the fruits of his piscatorial pursuits.
A man of impeccable taste, Billy Joe cherished his 1999 Chevy Truck, keeping it in a condition that would make even the finest charioteer envious. He was a beloved "PawPaw" to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who shall carry forth his legacy of wit and wisdom.
On the 13th of December, 1952, Billy Joe was united in holy matrimony with the love of his life, Ouida Marie Battle Bond, and together they journeyed through 68 years of wedded bliss.
A celebration of Billy Joe's life will be held at 11 am on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Billy Joe will be laid to rest with military honors in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 10-11 am.
