Billy Joe Hardy

August 8, 1925 — August 27, 2013

Billy Bill Joe Hardy, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Tuesday, August 27, 2013.  He was 88.

Funeral services will be held at 2pm on Friday, August 30, 2013 at Cloverdale United Methodist Church with Rev. Tommy Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home. At all other times the family will be at the home of Shay Johnson, 76 National Rd., Dothan, AL.

Mr. Hardy was born on August 8, 1925 in Barbour County.  He was the son of the late Lyman C. Hardy and Vassie Hagler Hardy.  Mr. Hardy graduated from high school in Blue Springs, Alabama in 1943 after which he served two years in the U. S. Army.  He was an active member of Cloverdale United Methodist Church since 1955 and worked with Wm. Wrigley Jr. Company for 46 years.  Mr. Hardy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting.  He was a big fan of Alabama Football.  He loved people and had many friends.  Mr. Hardy was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather.  His greatest treasure in life was his family.  He will truly be missed.

Mr. Hardy was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Marie Spivey Hardy; a son, Billy Joe Hardy, Jr.; four brothers, Tullis Hardy, Lyman Evelyn Hardy, James Hardy, and Herb Lucy Hardy; sisters, Rebecca Pritchard, Lois Keller, Peggy J. Hardy, Jessie Hardy, and Thelma Long; a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Nadine and Virgil Strickland; a brother-in-law, Dempsey Boyd.

Survivors include his daughters, Julie Ted Toole and Zann Mike Goss; a daughter-in-law Sherry DeLair; a brother, Thomas Betty Hardy; brothers-in-law, Fred Pritchard and Don Linda Spivey; sisters-in-law, Frances Boyd and Myrtle Edgar Norman; his grandchildren, Kim Haymes, Nicole Ty Erwin, Carman Jeff Strickland, Shay Adam Johnson, Heather Gaither, Hillary Josh Jimenez, and Anna Marie Toole; 14 loving great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to caregivers, the staff, nurses and CNA's from Hall 3 at Extendicare Health and Rehabilitation, Gentiva Hospice, Alacare Hospice, HeartSouth, Dr. Aliabadi, Hollie Crutchfield, Dr. Terry Pynes, and Dr. Steve Stokes.
