Billy Joe Johns, 74, of Dothan died Saturday, February 12, 2011 at Extendicare.

Services will be held 2:00 pm Monday, February 14, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Westview Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 4-6 pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1231 Fortner St., Dothan, AL, 36301.Mr. Johns was born May 12, 1936 in Dale County and lived near Skipperville, AL until the mid 1970’s. He moved to Dothan in 1975 and was employed with the Houston County Road and Bridge Department as an assistant engineer until his retirement in 1992. He served with the Alabama National Guard for 12 years. Mr. Johns was a member of Ridgecrest Baptist Church and the Alton Cantrell Sunday School Class. He was a member of the Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame and a former member of ARSEA. He was preceded in death by his parents Joe and Lillie Johns and a son Bobby Lee Johns.Survivors include his wife Elizabeth Parker Johns of Dothan; a son Andy Johns and his fiancé, Carol Ethridge of Abbeville, AL; his special granddaughter Abby Johns; a sister Susie Grantham and her husband Howard of Ashford; a brother-in-law Wayne Parker and his wife Jean of Ozark; a sister-in-law Jane Andrews and her husband Frank of Jacksonville, FL; several nieces and nephews and a special cousin Kermit Jackson of Dothan.Serving as active pallbearers will be Joe Grantham, Jerry Grantham, Frank Andrews, Richard Tice, Sonny Hughes, and Wayne Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be the Alton Cantrell Sunday School Class and the Annette Granberry Sunday School Class from Ridgecrest Baptist Church. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
