Billy C. Newton of Dothan passed away Wednesday, April 22, 2009 at William F. Green State Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama after an extended illness. He was 77.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2009 at Bay Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Scott Wyatt and Rev. Coley Holloway officiating. Burial will follow with military honors in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends for 1 hour prior to the service at the church. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to Covenant Hospice of Daphne, AL, 1040 Stanton Rd., Daphne, AL, 36526 or the Bay Springs Baptist Church Building Fund, 1721 S. Bay Springs Rd., Dothan, AL, 36303.Mr. Newton was born on November 4, 1931 in Houston County and lived the early years of his life here. He was a veteran of the Korean War having served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years after which he retired in 1971. He later moved to Dothan and resided here for 32 years prior to moving to the William F. Greene State Veterans Home in Bay Minette, AL. While residing in Dothan Mr. Newton was employed with the Civil Service at Ft. Rucker for 15 years prior to his retirement in 1987. He was a member of Chapter 87 of the Disabled American Veterans and the Bay Springs Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife Jeanette Newton of Dothan; a daughter Cindy Hubbert and her husband Ken of Dothan; a son Billy David Newton of Lexington, SC; grandchildren, Christina Watkins, Felicia Reeves her husband Matt; great-grandchildren, Aidan Watkins, Kira Watkins and Linus Reeves; a sister, Martha Joe Shiver and her husband Billy of Kissimmee, FL; brothers, Robert Newton and his wife Judy of Camilla, GA and Ted Newton and his wife Mariam of Jacksonville, FL; a sister-in-law Kathryn Newton of Autaugaville, AL; several nieces and nephews also survive. Serving as active pallbearers will be Larry Green, Wesley Green, Johnny Whatley, Russell Whatley, Matthew Smith and Matthew Reeves.Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the Bay Springs Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
