Billy Joe Welch

March 31, 1936 — September 11, 2024

Billy Joe Welch, affectionately known as Billy Joe to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at his home in Kinsey, Alabama. Born on March 31, 1936, in Houston County, Alabama, Billy was a man whose life was characterized by his wisdom, love, and dedication to his family and community.

Billy's journey began in the rural heart of Alabama, where he was born to John and Sallie Welch. He grew up alongside his siblings, James, Hubert, Elbert, Mary, Sara, and Frances, in a time that valued hard work and close-knit family ties. Billy carried these values throughout his life, creating a legacy of love and strength that would endure through his children and beyond.

A devoted husband, Billy was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Betty Welch. Together, they raised a family that included their children Twyla Morgan (Gary), Scott Welch (Sharlene), Veleta Watson, and Bill Welch (Linda). Billy's role as a patriarch extended to his cherished grandchildren Keisha Littlefield, Shaun Morgan, Drew Welch, Hannah Welch, Chanda Taylor, and Ashley Harris, as well as his great-grandchildren Caleb Flippo, Madison Flippo, Kinsley Littlefield, Bryce Morgan, Mason Morgan, and Barrett Welch, and his great-great-grandchild Adelyn Flippo. His brother James Welch survives him, as he joins his late brothers Hubert and Elbert, and sisters Mary Harrison, Sara Griffin, and Frances Hand in eternal rest.

Billy's professional life was marked by his entrepreneurial spirit and his dedication to his craft. As the owner of Welch Plumbing and Electric, he served his community with integrity and skill. His reputation as a reliable and knowledgeable businessman was well-known throughout the area, and his company stood as a testament to his hard work and commitment to excellence.

Beyond his professional achievements, Billy's passions painted the picture of a man who cherished the simple pleasures in life. His love for country music, cowboy movies, and spending time on his tractor reflected his down-to-earth nature. Above all, Billy's greatest joy was found in the time he spent surrounded by his family, sharing stories, laughter, and wisdom.

Billy's life was a tapestry woven with the threads of love, hard work, and dedication. He was a pillar of wisdom in his community, often sought after for his sage advice and warm, loving approach to life's challenges. His presence brought comfort and stability to those around him, and his influence will be felt for generations to come.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 2:00pm in the Sunset Memorial Park Chapel with Rev. Judy Dyson officiating. The family will receive friends an hour prior to the service.
