Blondell Scott Deatherage

December 10, 1921 — February 20, 2016

Blondell Scott Deatherage, 94, a resident of Dothan passed away February 20, 2016 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be held 2pm Wednesday, 24, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray and Diane Kelly officiating.  Burial will follow in Gardens of Memory Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1pm until 2pm Wednesday.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.

Mrs. Deatherage was born December 10, 1921 to Jasper and Tessie Scott.  She resided the early years of her life in Taylor and she was a graduate of Rehobeth High School.  She was employed with Warners in Dothan for several years and later in the restaurant management business.  Mrs. Deatherage also was employed with the State Rehabilitation of Georgia as a teacher.  She volunteered for many good causes and in former years lead many civic drives in the neighborhood.  Loving children, she had been active in scouting, teaching and helping children any way she could.  Mrs. Deatherage was a good neighbor and friend to many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Luell Chester Bass, brothers-in-law, James Sellers, Marcus Whiddon, Walt McNeil, and daughter-in-law, Brenda Deatherage.

She is survived by her husband of 74, years, Virgil H. Deatherage, Sr.; two daughters, Anna Harold Harrison, Bainbridge, GA and Kathy Jones; two sons, Virgil Deatherage, Jr., and Kenneth Sondra Deatherage; 11 grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Jim McNeil, Betty Nell Jack Franklin, Robbie Dean Whiddon; several nieces, nephews and friends.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Kevin, Keith and Beau Deatherage and Brett and Chuck Harrison, Bobby Jenning, Jr., and Jeffery Marsh.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dustin Gilley, Stephen Hayes, Robert Carlisle and Terry Allen Hatcher.

The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Donavon Wewers, Tonya and his boys and Dr. Jonathan Jeannings and Dr. Chris Robison and special care givers Melony Kay Watson and Doris Boyett and the staff of Care South.
