Brenda Louise "Nana" Marshall Trawick, a beacon of love and the matriarch of her family, passed away peacefully on February 10, 2025, just one day shy of her 78th birthday, in Dothan, Alabama. Born on February 11, 1947, in Napier Field, Alabama, Brenda was the cherished daughter of the late Robert and Louise Price Marshall. Her life was a testament to the power of love, family, and dedication, leaving a legacy that will be treasured by all who knew her.
Brenda was a proud graduate of Dale County High School, Class of 1965, and shortly after, on December 3, 1965, she married the love of her life, James "Honey" Trawick. Their unwavering partnership spanned 59 years, during which Brenda lovingly supported Honey in all his business ventures, including the well-known Honey's Hotdogs. Together, they built a life filled with joy, hard work, and enduring love.
Their family blossomed with the arrival of three children: James Mark Trawick, Jamie Trawick (James) Lolley, and Tracy Trawick (Dan) Cumbie. Brenda, known affectionately as Nana, was the cornerstone of her family, always ready to play referee during family issues, listen intently, and offer her wisdom with open arms. Her six grandchildren, Ariel (Jordan) Lowe, Molly (Stone) Lasseter, Drew Cumbie (Lillie McCorkle), Korin Lolley, Hunter Trawick, and Sarah Trawick, along with her two great-grandchildren, Reid Lowe and Ellie Mae Trawick, were the light of her life. In addition to her parents, Brenda was preceded in death by her infant daughter. Brenda's ability to love unconditionally and her role as the family's glue will forever be remembered by her loved ones.
Brenda's talents extended beyond her role as a family matriarch. She was a wonderful cook, known for her sumptuous meals that brought everyone together. Her kitchen was not just a place of nourishment but a sanctuary where laughter, love, and sage advice were shared over home-cooked delights.
Selfless, friendly, and loving—these words encapsulate the essence of Brenda Louise "Nana" Trawick. She had an innate ability to make everyone around her feel cherished and important, and her presence was a source of comfort and joy.
A celebration of Brenda's life will be held at 2 pm on Friday, February 14, 2025, at Mt. Gilead Baptist Church, with Brother Danny Williams officiating. Her final resting place will be in the serene grounds of Mt. Gilead Baptist Church Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest. Relatives and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Brenda at Sunset Funeral Home on Thursday evening, from 5-7 pm. Serving as active pallbearers will be her grandsons and loved ones, Korin Lolley, Hunter Trawick, Drew Cumbie, Stone Lasseter, Jordan Lowe, and Hunter Golden, all of whom held a special place in her heart.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the care and compassion shown to them by Enhabit Home Health and by her private sitters, Amy, Melissa, and Trenia.
Brenda's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those she touched, but her spirit will continue to guide and inspire her family and friends. Her unwavering love, kindness, and the joy she brought to life will be the memories that sustain them in the days to come. Brenda Louise "Nana" Trawick will be profoundly missed, but her legacy of love and selflessness will endure forever.
