Carolyn Cawthron Johnson

November 16, 1932 — November 17, 2015

Carolyn Cawthron Johnson of Dothan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at Wesley Manor Nursing Home after a long illness. Carolyn’s lovely life ended just one day after her 83rd birthday. Taken from us in this life; returned to us in death.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carolyn’s memory may be given to First Baptist Church of Dothan or any charity of your choosing.

Carolyn was born to Jack and Margaret Cawthron on November 16, 1932 in Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. She grew up in McGregor, Texas and graduated from McGregor High School in 1951. She spent most of her early years in Texas until she met and married Joe Rodgers Johnson and eventually had two beautiful children, Jennifer and Gary. She passed the Civil Service examination in 1952 and went to work at the 12th Air force Command Center in Waco, Texas. She held many Civil Service positions through the years. Carolyn was a strong woman who was both an Air Force wife and a Navy mom. Carolyn retired from the Army Aeromedical Research Laboratory in 1993, after 16 years of service. She lived out her later years in Dothan, Alabama where she was surrounded by loving family and friends. Carolyn had many interests in life including tatting, sewing, antiques, and was devoted to her beloved Boston Terrier. She was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Dothan.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jack Richard and Margaret McDonald Cawthron of McGregor, Texas, and her daughter, Jennifer Johnson Bass of Gordon, Alabama.

Survivors include her son, Gary M. Johnson and his wife Carol; her grandchildren, Jordan and Sean Johnson; her brother, John R. Cawthron, Sr. and his wife Virginia; her niece, Meredith and a nephew, Richard.
