Cassandra Louise Magana, affectionately known to many as Sandra, passed away peacefully on August 16, 2024, at the age of 68, in Kinsey, Alabama, after a courageous battle with an extended illness. She was a beacon of strength, love and generosity, touching the lives of all who knew her with her selfless nature and warm spirit.
Born on May 4, 1956, in Ft. Benning, Georgia, Sandra was the daughter of Fred Fairley and the late Cora Lee Avery. She grew up in the Columbus, Georgia area, moving often with her military family, and completed her GED in Daleville, Alabama. Sandra's journey in education did not end there; she pursued her passion for beauty and creativity by attending Cosmetology school. Her skillful hands and caring touch brought joy to her family and friends as she delighted in styling their hair for special occasions and everyday comfort.
Sandra's heart found its match in David Allen Magana, and their love story spanned almost 40 years of marriage. Their union was blessed with a loving family, including their sons Anthony Jenkins and the late Julian Bernard Jenkins; daughters La Sundra (Greg) Jenkins, Arnetta (Warren) Calloway, and Jasmine Magana (Matthew) Mixon and step-daughter, April Magana; grandchildren Cyana (Zach) Ward, Warren Calloway, II, David A. Hart, Julian Dunlap, Melody Louise Mixon, Jordan D. Brown, and Matthew David Mixon; and great-grandchildren Jordan Anthony Mills and Sebastion A. Ward. She also leaves behind her father, Fred Fairley; brothers, Henry Avery, Jr. and Fred Fairley, Jr.; sisters, Sabrina Small, Yolanda Allen-Jurgensen, and Tangee Williams; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who will continue to cherish her memory.
Sandra's professional life was marked by her dedication and craftsmanship as a seamstress. She worked with various companies, including Wex Tex and Vanity Fair, and also spent time nurturing young minds at a local daycare. Her work was not just a means to an end but an extension of her nurturing personality, providing comfort and care through the garments she created and the children she helped to raise.
A woman of many interests, Sandra found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was an avid reader, with Stephen King's novels holding a special place on her bookshelf. Her hands were rarely still, often busy with crochet hooks or assembling puzzles. She loved to tend to her potted plants, imbuing her home with life and vibrancy. Sandra's passion for music was eclectic, spanning R&B, the Blues, Country, and Contemporary Jazz.
Sandra's love for her family was unparalleled. She embraced her role as a full-time mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother with every ounce of her being. Her delight was in being surrounded by her loved ones, whom she loved tremendously.
As a member of Harvest Church, Sandra's faith was a cornerstone of her existence and she was a perfect example of a Proverbs 31 woman. She lived a life that exemplified the teachings of her faith, always putting others before herself.
In her leisure, Sandra enjoyed watching westerns and crime shows, often sharing these moments with her family. Her laughter and commentary during these shared experiences will be fondly remembered and sorely missed.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that Sandra lived a life full of love and that her generous spirit will live on through the memories they hold dear. Sandra was a living testament to the power of selflessness and love, and her passing leaves a void that can never be filled.
The family will gather from 4-6 pm on Tuesday, August 20, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home to share stories and memories of their beloved Sandra.
As we bid farewell to Cassandra Louise Magana, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the extraordinary life she led. Her smile, her gentle touch, and her boundless love will forever remain in the hearts of those who were privileged to know her.
