Chaniqua "Bird" Jamalya Welch, a resident of Dothan, AL, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at a local hospital. She was 39 years old.
A celebration of her life will be held at 12 pm on Monday, January 24, 2022 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Horn officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service.
Chaniqua was born on July 29, 1982 in Alabama. She found her love of working in cosmetology at the young age of 13. She enjoyed braiding and styling her classmates hair in high school. She was an excellent stylist and would always know what would look best for her clients. She was not only hardworking but was also so loving and kindhearted. She would do anything to help anyone in need. When she wasn't working, Chaniqua enjoyed traveling to the beach, taking cruises, and posting on social media; she will be missed for her 3 AM TikTok shares. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was saved through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at a young age and throughout her life was committed to serving her church, Hines Chapel AME of Dothan.
Chaniqua is preceded in death by her mother, Carla Welch, father James Williams; grandmother Annie Wesson; and her brother, Sumner Bond.
She leaves to cherish her memories her siblings, Jeanetta Welch, Sadé Welch, Xavian Welch, James Bond, Tamika (Kenneth) McCormick, Shenatta Walker, Paul (Indaly) Walker, Christopher (Angela) Barwick, and Jamond Drayton; her favorite cousin, LaTeisha Brown; her best friend and goddaughter, Alexandrea Russaw; her best friend, Anitra Horn; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
