Charles Donovan Peters, 69, a resident of Kinsey passed away at his home on Friday, May 15, 2015 following a long battle with lung cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Father Lawrence W. Thompson of St. Matthias Anglican Church officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Monday at Sunset Funeral Home. At all other times the family will be at the home of Anna and Cory Singletary, 115 Lilac Lane, Dothan, AL. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the St. Matthias Anglican Church, the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, the American Cancer Society, Sav-A-Pet, or to your favorite charity.

Mr. Peters was born September 25, 1945 in Geneva County, AL to Walter A. and Ola Mae Peacock Peters. He moved to Dothan at an early age and was a 1963 graduate of Dothan High School. In 1969 he graduated from Auburn University with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. While at Auburn, he was President of Tau Beta Pi national engineering honor society and Chi Epsilon, the civil engineering honor society. He was one of the top three engineering graduates in the Fall of 1969, and was awarded a commission from the USAF Reserves at Maxwell AFB in Montgomery where he commanded the 908th Civil Engineering Flight. Charles was president of Peters Municipal Associates, a civil engineering consulting firm in Dothan, for over 30 years.

Charles is survived by his wife, Betty Faulk Peters of Kinsey; a son, Jonathan Peters of Kinsey; a daughter, Anna Cory Singletary of Dothan; a grandson Charles Lee Singletary of Dothan; a sister, Sharon Steve Ellis of Brundidge; a sister-in-law, Marge Peters of Tallahassee; nieces, Angie DeGagne, Amy Green Lester, and Brittney Green; a nephew Bob Westfall. Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Bobby L. Peters of Tallahassee; his grandparents, Jim Frank and Dolly Peters of Wicksburg and Thomas Edward and Mary Lee Blount Peacock of Slocomb.
