Charles B. Foster

LTC Charles B. "Chuck" Foster US Army Ret., 77, a resident of Dothan passed away Monday, July 11, 2016 at Midtown Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 15, 2016, at Ridgecrest Baptist Church with Rev. Ray Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Gideon's International, Dothan North Camp, P.O. Box 5554, Dothan, AL, 36302 or to the Ridgecrest Baptist Church Building Fund, 1231 Fortner St., Dothan, AL, 36301.

Mr. Foster was born August 16, 1938 in LaGrange, GA and lived the early part of his life there. He was a graduate of LaGrange High School and went on to attain his degree in Religious Education from Mercer University in Macon, GA. He later graduated from William and Mary with a Masters Degree in Guidance and Counseling. He was a Vietnam Veteran having served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years, retiring in 1982. He served tours in Germany, Korea, and Panama as well as stateside. He was also on staff at the University of Alabama ROTC program. Mr. Foster moved to Columbus in 1978, and moved to Dothan in 2006. He had a zest for adventures that took him to scaling the Matterhorn and Mount Kilimanjaro, snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, and hiking parts of the Appalachian Trail. He was a member and speaker with Gideon's International for 25 years and has served as a Deacon and a member of the choir at Ridgecrest Baptist Church where he was a member. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernest Foster and Margaret Truett.

Survivors include his wife Grace Brand Foster; his son, Jeffrey B. Jacqui Foster; his daughters, Leigh F. Blair Bacher and Tracy F. Bill Draper; grandchildren, Cameron Foster, Chrissy Eric Moore, 2LT Jay Campbell, Jordan Draper, and Suzie Draper; his brother, Randy Anne Foster; his sister, Cecelia Harry Dennis; several nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Mayon Sewell, George Talley, Doug Parrish, Bob Page, Sonny Craddock, and Thomas Simmons. Honorary pallbearers will be Spud Thomas, Johnny Oppert, and the Deacons of Ridgecrest Baptist Church.
