Charles H. Vann

Charles H. Vann, a resident of Dothan, passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021. He was 89 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at First Baptist Church of Dothan with Rev. Taylor Rutland and Rev. Bob Gross officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the church on Saturday from 10-11 am.

Mr. Vann was born in Chattahoochee, Florida on July 23, 1931 to the late Howard B. and Audrey McKnight Vann. He proudly joined the US Army and would later work at GFA Transportation for 33 years until his retirement. Mr. Vann married the love of his life, Louise Vann in 1959, together they had many adventures traveling. He was an avid golfer and in his spare time loved to go fishing. Mr. Vann was a member of First Baptist Church of Dothan.

Mr. Vann was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Louise Vann, his parents, Howard Blair and Audrey McKnight Vann, and by his son-in-law, Billy Burkett.

Survivors include his daughters, Tonya Burkett and Carla (Jim) Nettles; his grandchildren, Torri (Cory) Harpe, Danny (Morgan) Burkett, Jared Burkett, Devin Burkett, Audrey (Davis) Cain, and Anna Nettles; his great-grandchildren, Haley, Chase, Connor, Raeleigh, River, Ethan, Caeden, Caeson, and Natasha; his sister, Mary Blair (Bill) Van Tassel; and his special K9 companion, Marley Jayne.

Serving as active pallbearers will be David Van Tassel, Cory Harpe, Chase Elliott, and Vijay Purugulla. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Coffee Breakfast Group he attended.

The family wishes to express their deep gratitude for the love and compassion shown to them by his caretaker, Helen Hudgen, and a very special thank you to Brett Smith and Angela Turner.
