Charlotte Kirkland Lewis

September 25, 1943 — August 27, 2013

Charlotte Kirkland Lewis, 69, of Dothan, Alabama, died surrounded by her loved ones, on Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at her home in Dothan, Alabama.

Visitation will be Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Westgate Church of Christ, in Dothan from 9:00-11:00. The Celebration of Life Ceremony will immediately follow at 11:00 at Westgate Church of Christ. The service will be officiated by Bill Watkins and directed by Robert Byrd. Flowers are being accepted. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park.

Charlotte Lewis was born in Covington County Alabama and graduated from Pleasant Home High School. She graduated from Auburn University with a degree in Psychology.

Charlotte was a kind and compassionate woman who always put Christ first in her life. She supported her husband and raised her children to know the joy of walking in the light. She always saw the good in people and she spoke only words of kindness. Her heart was tender and she loved her grandchildren passionately. Charlotte was an active member of Westgate Church of Christ for twenty-nine years. She was the “Village Queen” counselor at Wiregrass Christian Youth Camp for twenty years. Charlotte was also a member of the B Team Angels Ministry.  The name “B Team” originated as they had not yet received their halos. Charlotte was a member of the Dothan Service League for five years serving her community.

Charlotte Kirkland Lewis knew God and she knew peace. Her faith sustained her and touched all those who knew her. She leaves behind many people whom she loved dearly.

Charlotte was preceded in death by her parents Frank Tillman Kirkland and Bama Parrish Kirkland. Siblings who preceded her in death include Ruedene Best, Ruesaw Tince Kirkland, and Walter Mack Kirkland “Jack”.

Charlotte is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ralph Don Lewis, Sr. and her children Butch and Starla Lewis, Jeff and Donda Leah Goodson, and Michael Teal and Crystal Lewis.  Grandchildren include Regan Elizabeth Lewis, Mary Katherine Lewis, Taylor Lewis, Whit Harrison, Anna Beth Goodson, Caroline Ann Goodson “Callie”, Claire Victoria Lewis and Hayes Tillman Lewis.  She is survived by sisters Jean Girdner of Pensacola, FL and Joan Cawyer of Eddy, TX and brother-in-law Lamar Best of Montgomery, AL. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews.

Serving as active pallbearers will be Bobby Blount, Tom Kirk, Doug Smith, Alex Murphree, Craig Walden and Wayne Pierce.
