Christine Walton Enloe

Christine Walton Enloe, age 93, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Saturday night, September 11, 2010.

Celebration of her life will be held at 2 pm Friday, September 17, 2010 at Sunset Funeral Home with Dr. Jeff Ross officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 pm on Friday prior to the services. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that contributions be made to the Pathway Baptist Church “Building Fund”, 3551 Flowers Chapel Road, Dothan, AL 36305.Mrs. Enloe was born in Tunica, Louisiana on August 26, 1917, to Luther Nathaniel and Emma Lee Burch Walton; five brothers and three sisters, as well as her husband, Edmond James Enloe, Sr., all preceded her in death. She graduated from Julius Freyhan High School in St. Francisville, LA in 1934. She grew up in the country where her father, i.e. “Papa” had a general store.After high school she ran her father’s store for about 7 years. On November 12, 1940 she married her dear husband, Ed. In 1945, they opened up their first small grocery market in Baton Rouge, LA, and then later built a larger independent Red & White Grocery store, which they owned and ran for 20 years. Following this, she worked for the Louisiana State Dept. of Public Safety, Motor Vehicle Bureau, in Baton Rouge for 15 years. She resided in Baton Rouge, LA for 50 years before moving to Dothan. In January of 1996, she and her husband made the decision to move to Dothan to be near their son and his wife. Their second Sunday in Dothan, they joined Pathway Baptist Church and were received with much love and “open arms.” Mother has many dear friends at Pathway and especially felt close to the members of her Sunday School Class. Christine was blessed with one son, Edmond James Enloe, Jr. and his wife Diane of Dothan, AL; 3 grandchildren, Mark Enloe of Sierra Madre, CA, Juelie Harvin and husband Brian of Dothan, Paul Enloe of Tampa, FL and a very special “granddaughter”, Beth Womack Enloe of Frisco, TX; 5 great-grandchildren and they were GREAT to her!, Mason Enloe of Frisco, TX, Tristan, Braydon and Reilly Harvin of Dothan, and Maya Enloe of Oregon; a dear brother-in-law and his wife, Dr. and Mrs. Jim Enloe of Carmel, IN, and several, very special surviving nieces and nephews along with their spouses and families. We celebrate the life of our mother…and are very grateful for the example that she set before us…one of deep love, first and foremost for Christ, and then deep love for her family and her church. She was a person of integrity, strong faith and appreciation for her life in whatever circumstance. Her first thought always was for others and not of herself. Active pallbearers will be Paul Enloe, her two oldest great-grandsons, Mason Enloe and Tristan Harvin, Brian Harvin, Bill Hornsey Diane’s “baby” brother, of Baton Rouge, LA and Jim Enloe of Carmel, IN. Honorary pallbearers will be her precious friends of the Faithful Pathfinders Sunday School Class.The family wishes to thank her physician, Dr. Paola Bass and her nurse Lenesha Cummings who loved and cared for Mother since she and Dad moved to Dothan. We thank AlaCare for their caring staff, and we thank Betsy Schuhart, who lovingly sat with Mother upon occasion so that we might have time “away.” We have been so blessed to have had Mother in our home since her fall in February; we thank God for this extraordinary time with her.
