Clara Bolling Yelverton, a resident of Dothan passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at Flowers Hospital. She was 82.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 4, 2009 at Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon K. Marshall officiating and Robert Byrd directing. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the First Missionary Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 5626, Dothan, AL, 36302.Mrs. Yelverton was born in Elba, AL to John Bernard and Ouida Butler Bolling on December 12, 1926. She attended Elba Mulberry Heights School System in grades one through nine and spent the Senior High School Years at Alabama State Laboratory High in Montgomery, AL. She matriculated at Virginia Union University in Richmond, VA but graduated from Alabama State University with a B.S. Degree. Furthering her education, she received a Masters Degree in Education from Tuskegee University. After graduating from High School and moving from Elba, she united with First Missionary Baptist Church. Many happy years were spent with her husband, Wylie C. Yelverton, and to this union were born two sons, Andre’ and Alan. Mrs. Yelverton’s lifelong profession was teaching and the entire tenure of more than thirty-seven years was spent in the Dothan City School system. After her retirement she volunteered with Catholic Social Services and helped many elderly citizens.Mrs. Yelverton was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, a grandson, Alan R. Yelverton and a sister, Frances Bernice Jones.Cherishing her memory are two sons, Andre’ Tenita Yelverton of Riverdale, GA, Alan Tina Yelverton of Fayetteville, GA; a sister-in-law a best friend and sister Lorene Yelverton Lee; six grandchildren, Amy Anthony, Andre’, Briana, Alan, Janai, Alexander; two nephews, Floyd Renee’ Jones of Woodstock, MD, Freddie Alice Jones of Tuskegee, AL; an Aunt Gwendolyn W. Butler of Tuskegee Institute, AL; nieces, Jacquelyn Calvin Erwin and son Oscar Page, Vera Carter and daughter Joi Carter; other survivors include several great nephews and nieces and special friends among which are members of Les Vingt Socialete’ Club, a club that Mrs. Yelverton was a member of for over fifty years.
