Clem Earl Weaverling

Clem Earl Weaverling, 66, of Cottonwood, passed away Thursday, August 19, 2010 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm on Monday, August 23, 2010 in the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain David Baker officiating and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to service time on Monday.Clem was born August 26, 1943 in Six Mile Run, PA and lived the early years of his life there. He graduated from Tussy Mountain High School in Saxton, PA in 1962; joined the US Army and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War. Clem was a subcontractor in the construction industry for several years. He later re-enlisted in the Army and served from 1970 until 1978. Clem and Jean moved to Dothan in 1988 where he served as a foreman for Gabbrielli Construction Co. He was later employed with the Houston County Sheriff’s Department for several years. He also served as the Police Chief of Cottonwood from 1996-2004. Clem returned to Houston County and served as a Court Liaison from 2004 until his retirement in 2009.Clem was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Julie Marie Weaverling, his parents, Harry and Lorraine Weaverling, and his sister, Linda Petron.Survivors include his wife Jean Weaverling of Cottonwood; his daughters and sons-in-law, Natalie and Jorge Benitez of Simonton, TX; Terri E. Jensen of Dothan, AL; Jill and Fred Hall of Saxton, PA; Jacki and Robert Nelson of Sierra Vista, AZ; his 6 grandchildren; his sisters: Sandra Freeman of Chambersburg, PA; Sherry Ingram of Tyrone, PA; Valorie Merritts of Alexandria, PA; Rebecca Ryan of Abbeville, AL; Rhoda Hall of Alexandria, PA; as well as several nieces and nephews.In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the National Autism Association: 1330 W. Schatz Ln., Nixa, MO 65714, or to the American Heart Association: 1152 W. Main St., Dothan, AL 36303. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
