Clifford E. Childress, a resident of Midland City, Alabama passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at his residence. He was 79. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 22, 2019 at 3 pm in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Sunset Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-3 pm on the day of the service. Clifford was born on December 3, 1939 in Springhill, West Virginia to Daniel W. and Mary Hoplite Childress. He served 20 years in the US Army where he completed two tours in Vietnam. Clifford was awarded two Bronze Stars and the Meritorious Service Medal. He was a supervisor at Twitchell for 40 years. He enjoyed photography and won 31 first place ribbons in the National Peanut Festival Photo Contest. Survivors include his wife, Retha Childress; children, Daniel W. Childress, III, Deborah (Richard) Fowler and Kimberly (Rick) Dowd; grandchildren, Ethan Fowler and Nicole Dowd who were the light of his life; and a sister, Kathryn Childress.
