Clyde Shipman

April 6, 1933 — July 4, 2016

Clyde Shipman, Jr. 83, a resident of Dothan, passed away at North Baldwin Infirmary on July 4, 2016.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Fred McClain officiating.  Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing.  The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5pm to 7pm.

Mr. Shipman was born April 6, 1933 in Houston County and he was a 1951 graduate of Carver High School.  He also graduated from Athens State College with a degree in education.  Mr. Shipman taught Automotive Mechanics at D.A. Smith High School and Carroll High School for over 20 years prior to his retirement. He was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Korean Conflict. Mr. Shipman also served with the Alabama National Guard and had over 25 years’ service. One of his favorite hobbies was photography and he enjoyed taking photos of his family. Mr. Shipman was a member of Sons of Allen and Parks Chapel AME Church.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Shipman; his sons, Derwin Glenn Shipman and Thomas Kevin Shipman; his daughters, Danita Darryl Robinson, Marsha Shipman, Sonja Shipman and Erika Shipman; his grandchildren, Alexis Robinson, Brandon Robinson, Nia Robinson, Victoria Wilson, Lloyd Joshua Wilson and Elise Shipman; his sister, Dorothy Robert Ruffin; several nieces and nephews.
