Cw5 Richard Lee Case, Us Army, Ret.

CW5 Richard Lee Case, US Army, Ret., a resident of Dothan, passed away peacefully following a courageous battle with cancer at his residence on Tuesday, May 25, 2021. He was 62 years old.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Saturday, May 29, 2021, in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Charles Goldsmith officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday evening from 5-7 pm. In Lieu of flowers,donations may be made to a college fund for Barrett Stone Case.

Mr. Case was born on September 22, 1958, to Gerald Gene Case and the late Mary Brady McDavid in Gassaway, West Virginia but was raised in Elyria, Ohio. He graduated in 1977 from Elyria West High School and joined the US Army where he was a tank operator. Mr. Case went to officer training school and later to Army Flight School and became a helicopter pilot. He was also a fixed wing pilot and flight instructor with over 26 years of military service. At the time of his retirement, he was a US Deputy Chief of Staff at the Pentagon. He was currently employed with the Department of Defense as an Aviation Training Strategy Manager, with a combined service of 44 years. Mr. Case enjoyed going fishing, loved to read, but mostly he loved spending time with his family.

Mr. Case was preceded in death by his stepfather, Paul McDavid.

Survivors include his wife Jessica Case; his children, Jennifer (Trey) Tindoll, Richard (Jenny) Case, Nathan, Natalie, Sloane, and Barrett Stone Case; his 4 grandchildren, Emory, Brody, Ryker, and Jolie; his brothers, Charles (Michelle) McDavid and Hank (Lisa) McDavid; his sisters, Vicki Seitz and Donna (Donald) Jones; and many nieces and nephews.
