Dalton L. “Lefty” Work of Headland, AL, formerly of Bradford, PA, went to be with his Lord on Friday, June 17, 2011. He was 87.

rnFuneral services will be held at 10 am on Monday, June 20, 2011 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Bastien officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7pm on Sunday, June 19, 2011. A celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at 2 pm in Hill Memorial United Methodist Church, Bradford, PA with Dave Bunnell presiding. Cards and condolences may be sent to his family at 101 Lake Lane, Headland, AL 36345. rnMr. Work was born on July 26, 1923 in Cyclone, PA. He was one of 13 children born to the late Oliver Grant and Ella Helen Huntoon Work. He grew up in the Clifford/Rew, PA area and at age 17 joined the Army Air Corps. During WWII he served in the Pacific Theater with the 5th Air Force, 501 Bomb Squadron as a Tail Gunner on a B-25. Mr. Work remained in the service as an Air Force reservist and was called back to duty during the Korean conflict. rnOn March 2, 1946, he married Viown R. Mattocks in Olean, NY, who survives. God blessed this union of 65 years with four children, Charles G. Work, Bradford, PA, Dalton L. Work, Jr., deceased, Charlene Work Chris Bence, Headland, AL, and Vickie Work Mick Murphy, Dothan, AL. Three granddaughters, Jenni Nielson, Concord, CA, Lori David Cagle, Nashville, TN, and Shea Murphy, Dothan, AL. Five great-grandchildren, Whitney, Collette, and Jaylee Nielson of Concord, CA and Skyler Dalton and Savannah Marie Cagle of Nashville, TN. rnAfter the war, Mr. Work began a 35 year career with Kendall Oil Refinery in the lease fields, then as a welder and finally in fire safety. After retirement he found great pleasure as a greeter at K-Mart and finally at Walmart. After their health began to decline, he and his wife relocated in 2007 to Headland, AL. Mr. Work was a member of Hill Memorial United Methodist Church in Bradford, and after moving to Alabama became a member of Heritage Baptist Church in Dothan. Mr. Work was also an active member and volunteer at the senior centers in Bradford, PA and Dothan, AL. rnIn addition to his immediate family, Mr. Work is survived by a sister, Caro Simonds Lester of Bradford, PA; and two sisters-in-law, Lucille Beatty of Allegany, NY and Gen Silvis of Coreyville, PA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
