Dan Beard, a man of intellect, humor, and dedication, passed away on October 16, 2024, at the age of 81 in Dothan, Alabama. Born on July 1, 1943, in Millersville, Pennsylvania, Dan was a person whose life was marked by achievement, service, and the love of a close-knit family.
Graduating from Marathon High School at the tender age of 16, Dan's intelligence was evident early on. He took the Mensa Test the same year, confirming his exceptional cognitive abilities. This brilliance was a trait that he carried throughout his life, benefiting both his personal endeavors and his professional career.
Dan's work ethic was as strong as his mind. Shortly after high school, at 17 years old, he enlisted in the Navy and served for 9.5 years. During his time in the service, he showcased his musical talent by playing in the Navy Percussion, bringing rhythm and melody to the lives of his fellow servicemen. After his honorable discharge, he transitioned into the corporate world and built a fulfilling career at AT&T, formerly BellSouth. Dan's expertise and reliability earned him the title of Subject Matter Expert, a role he held with pride until his retirement after 30 years.
Following retirement, Dan pursued a passion for healing as a massage therapist, a testament to his desire to bring comfort and wellness to others. His professional journey was as diverse as it was long, reflecting a man who was always ready to embrace new challenges.
Dan's life was not just defined by his work but also by his love for his family. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Patti Beard, for 40 years. Together, they raised their children, Matthew Beard, with his wife Mercy, and Laura Riley, with her husband Tracy. Dan's joy multiplied with the arrival of his grandchildren, Brooke, Kane, Brenna, Klare, Kaelin Riley, and Blessie and Oliver Beard. His brother, Daryl Beard (Pam Murdock), along with several nieces and nephews, also held a special place in his heart.
Dan's personal interests were as unique as his career path. Known for his funny, dry sense of humor, he had a penchant for peanut butter and chocolate, a simple pleasure that never failed to bring a smile to his face.
Two years ago, Dan and Patti made the move from Saint Augustine, Florida, to Dothan, Alabama, where they continued to build memories and enjoy their golden years together. Dan's presence was a source of stability and joy for his family and the community he became a part of.
Dan Beard's legacy is one of love, laughter, and an unyielding commitment to his family and country. His life was a testament to the power of hard work, the value of service, and the importance of cherishing every moment with those we hold dear. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we hold onto the memories, the lessons, and the laughter he left behind.
