Daniel Jacob Gonia, Jr.

Daniel Jacob Gonia, Jr., a resident of Dothan passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2009 at his residence after an extended illness. He was 70.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2009 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel. Military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with and Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends immediately following the services in the Sunset Funeral Home Reception Center. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the ALS Association-Alabama Chapter, PO Box 2888, Huntsville, AL 35804-2888.Mr. Gonia was born on May 18, 1939 in Poughkeepsie, NY and was married to Frances E. Fogg on February 21, 1960. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force serving his country from June of 1959 until June of 1963. He was employed with IBM in Poughkeepsie, NY as a Future Planner for 29 years until his retirement in 1994. Mr. Gonia joined the Teamster Union, Local 445 in 1995 and retired in 2000. He moved to Dothan in January, 2001 and drove for Wiregrass Transit from 2005 until 2007. Mr. Gonia was a member of the National Rifle Association.Survivors include his wife Frances E. Fogg Gonia of Dothan; a son Gene S. Gonia of Altamont, NY; daughters, Cathy A. West of Cleveland, OH, Sherrie L. Herring of Dothan; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
