Dannelly Byrd, 89, of Dothan died Sunday, January 9, 2011 at a local hospital.

Services will be 3 pm Thursday, Jan. 13, 2011 at Sunset Funeral Home with Dr. Johnny Fain and Dr. Cecil Sanders officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Private graveside services will be held at Gardens of Memory with Robert Byrd directing. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church, 300 W. Main St., Dothan, AL, 36303.Dannelly Buckner Byrd was born January 12, 1921 in Midland City to James Franklin Byrd and Fay Buckner Byrd. He graduated from Midland City High School and attended Alabama Polytechnic Institute as Auburn University was then known. He worked with the Department of Agriculture training returning Veterans from World War II. He spent the majority of his career engaged in farming. He later retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier. He was an active member of the Midland City Methodist Church and later of the First Baptist Church of Dothan. In addition to his appreciation of life was his deep love and devotion for his late wife of 61 years and his daughters and grandchildren. Dannelly will be remembered by his family and friends for his love, kindness and generosity to others.Dannelly was preceded in death by his wife Louise Carter Byrd, his parents Jim and Fay Byrd, and two brothers Gene Byrd and Johnny Byrd.Survivors include his daughters, Hilda Jackson and her husband Raymond of Dothan and Donna Byrd of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Jane Jackson Lloyd and her husband Gray of Gainsville, GA and Jeff Jackson of Atlanta, GA; a brother Dr. Morris Byrd and his wife Linda of Owensboro, KY; several cousins, nieces and nephews also survive. Burial Date: January 1, 1970
