David “Dave” Scott Higby, a resident of Dothan passed away on Tuesday, December 21, 2010, at a local hospital. He was 56.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 am Tuesday, December 28, 2010, at St. Columba Catholic Church with Father Patrick Gallagher officiating and Robert Byrd directing. A prayer service will be held Monday evening 6 pm at Sunset Funeral Home with a family visitation following until 8 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The American Heart Association 112 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36303 or St. Columba Catholic Church, 2700 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.Dave was born on March 4, 1954, in Baltimore, Maryland and he lived the early years of his life in Severna Park, Maryland. He was a 1976 graduate of the University of Maryland where he received a degree in Business Administration with a minor in Transportation. Dave resided in Selbyville, Delaware and was employed with Cooking Good prior to moving to Dothan in 1988. He has been living in Dothan for the past twenty-two years and was employed with Perdue Farms for the past several years. Dave coached Girls Dixie Softball and St. Columba Girl’s basketball team. He was a board member of Boys and Girls Club and a member of St. Columba Catholic Church.Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Judy Higby, Dothan, three daughters, Meghan Higby Skemp and her husband Sammy, Nashville, TN, Jennifer Higby, Austin, Texas, and Lauren Higby, Dothan; his parents, Richard and Nancy Higby, Pasadena, MD; his mother-in-law, Donna Outly, Melbourne, FL; his brother, Mark Higby and his wife Karen, Catonsville, MD; two sisters, Jo Miller and her husband, Leon, Severna Park, MD; Beth Camilleri and her husband, Pat, St. Paul, MN; one brother-in-law, Greg Outly and his wife Brenda, South Hero, VT; five sisters-in-law, Lynn Jackson and her husband Steve, Palm Bay, FL; Becky Collier and her husband Danny, Melbourne, FL; Anita Bergeron, Melbourne, FL; and Sharon Snyder and her husband Dan, Brandon, FL; several nieces and nephews.Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Higby, Sammy Skemp, Ben Harrison, and Bruce Peterman.
