David Williams Crockett, of Dothan, passed away Tuesday December 1, 2009 at Westside Terrace. He was 85.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, December 4, 2009 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Johnny Fain and Rev. Talmadge Butler officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1-2 pm on Friday. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church Missions, 300 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301.David Williams Crockett was born in Dewitt, Arkansas on August 24, 1924. He was raised in Arkansas and Missouri, where his father was a Baptist pastor. He graduated at age fifteen from high school in Fayette, Missouri and attended Central College in Missouri for one year. He then attended the University of Alabama and during World War II enlisted in the United States Navy. He attended Georgia Tech and Notre Dame for officer training and served as a naval officer in the Pacific during World War II. He returned to the University of Alabama after the war and graduated as the top engineering student in his class with degrees in aeronautical and mechanical engineering. In 1948 he married Emily Sue Hodges of Abbeville, Alabama. Mr. Crockett was employed as an engineer in the aerospace industry in Connecticut, California, Oklahoma, and Dallas, Texas, where he worked with Chance-Voight Aeronautical Engineering. He loved aviation and was a great fan of Alabama football. He later felt the call to the ministry and graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He served in Baptist churches in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Mr. Crockett was devoted to the Lord and his family throughout his life. Mr. Crockett was preceded in death by his parents, Reverend and Mrs. Frank Quinn Crockett. He is survived by two sisters: Frances Crockett Frear of Pittsburgh, PA; and Martha Crockett de Garcia-Llort of Barcelona, Spain; four children: Commander Phillip Anthony Crockett and wife Olivia of Jacksonville, FL; Dr. Melissa Crockett Northam of Dothan; Dr. Frank Thomas Crockett and wife Olivia of Dothan; and Mrs. Jennifer Crockett Joyner and husband Cliff of Dothan; seven grandchildren: Thomas Crockett, Catherine Crockett, Elizabeth Crockett, James Crockett, John Crockett, Emily Joyner, and Rachel Shunnarah; and nieces Barbara Frear, Bonnie Frear, Beth Frear Hosking and husband Rick, and Maria Marta de Garcia-Llort Crockett.Serving as pall bearers are Thomas Crockett, James Crockett, John Crockett, Earl Wells, Alan Parker, Roy Fabrinni, David Hewitt, and John Wessner.rn Burial Date: January 1, 1970
