Derek Windham

June 16, 1965 — October 24, 2015

John “Derek” Windham, Sr., 50, a resident of Dothan passed away Saturday, October 24, 2015 at a local hospital.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 29, 2015 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Clint Adams officiating, Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 5-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Derek was born June 16, 1965 in Houston County and lived in Dothan most of his life. He was a 1983 graduate of Northview High School and a 1993 Honor Graduate of Auburn University where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Psychology. While at Auburn, he was a member of the Alpha Kappa Delta Fraternity, a member of the National Honor Society, a member of the National Criminal Justice Honor Society, and a member of the National Freshman Honor Society, all while maintaining a position on the Dean’s List as well as graduating in the top 5% on his class. Derek was employed with Dothan Nissan and later with QSI Steel Company and Alfa Insurance Company. He was an avid motorcycle enthusiast and loved to ride his Harley Davidson. He also enjoyed riding his dirt bike, sky diving, and scuba diving. Derek was preceded in death by his wife Donna Windham and his father Jack Windham.

Survivors include his sons, Jack Windham and Nick Windham fiancé Amber Raley; his mother, Jacqueline Windham; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jimmy and Jo Christmas; his sisters, Sheri Pieratti and Teri Stokes; nieces and nephews, SaraBeth Tyler Kirkland, Matthew Anna Patrick, Ali Pieratti, Katie Josh McCraney, and Charlie Dena Hicks; 7 great-nieces and nephews; a special family friend, Michael Glasscock; a close friend Susan Byers.

Pallbearers will be Charlie Hicks, Michael Glasscock, Clay Hatcher, and Jeff Dulac.
