Donald Lamar Ellis, a resident of Slocomb, passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2019. He was 87. Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Folds officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12-1 pm. Mr. Ellis was born on October 4, 1931 in Palatka, Florida and lived there the early years of his life. He joined the US Marines and served for 4 years. Mr. Ellis worked in construction as a block mason for D & B Masonry. He would later open his own company, Ellis Brothers Masonry. Mr. Ellis was a Godly man; he served as a Deacon and led many people to God. Anyone who met him loved him. Mr. Ellis enjoyed writing and singing Christian music and playing his guitar. Mr. Ellis was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Louise Ellis. Survivors include his sons, Thomas (Jo-Lin) Ellis and Joseph Timberlake; his daughters, Carol (Brian) Goulet and Joyce (Bill) Jones; his 12 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; several great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Serving as active pallbearers will be Danny Ellis, Lester Fant, III, Shawn Fant, Lester Fant, Jr., Allan Burton, and Louie Marino. Burial Date July 12, 2019 Funeral services will be held at 1 pm on Friday, July 12, 2019 in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tim Folds officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 12-1 pm.
