Donald Jerome Green

October 10, 1964 — July 7, 2024

Donald Jerome Green, known affectionately as Don, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, at the age of 59 in Newton, Alabama. Born on October 10, 1964, in Columbus, Georgia, Don was a man whose life was characterized by his loving nature, generosity, and kindness.

Don grew up in the warm embrace of his family in Columbus, where he attended Ashford Elementary and Wicksburg High School through the 10th grade. From a young age, he showed a remarkable ability to connect with those around him, a trait that would define him throughout his life. Don's passion for art was evident early on, as he spent countless hours drawing and creating, a hobby that brought him great joy and allowed him to share his view of the world with others.

As Don matured, his interests grew to include gardening, a pastime through which he cultivated not only vegetables but also relationships with his neighbors and friends. Don's garden was a place of tranquility and generosity, as he often shared the fruits of his labor with those around him. His love of people was palpable, and he was always ready to lend a hand or an ear to anyone in need.

Don was a simple man with a big heart, always looking for ways to help others. He was strong-headed, yet his resolve was always directed towards positive ends. His family was the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness, survived by his devoted mother, Mary Bowen Green Hidalgo; his brother, Dale (Renee) Green; his sister, Karin Hidalgo Hulon; his daughter, Hannah Green and her three children; his nieces, Beverly Manley and Shannon Hulon; sister-in-law, Sharon Green; and his nephews, Jason Green, Chad Green, Aaron Green, and Dylan McIntyre-Green. Don's life was enriched by the presence of a host of other family members who will miss his presence deeply.

Don was preceded in death by his father, James W. Green, and his special dad, Joseph C. Hidalgo, Sr., both of whom instilled in him the values of family and hard work. He was also preceded by his brothers, Dennis George Green and Joseph Hidalgo Jr., and his grandparents, John Bowen and Flossie Lee Hasty Bowen, who loved him dearly.

Those who knew Don will remember him as a beacon of love and selflessness. His generous spirit touched the lives of many, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him. Don's life was a testament to the power of kindness, and his memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were graced by his gentle soul.
