Donald H. Hudgens, a resident of Dothan passed away on Thursday, October 25, 2018 at a local hospital. He was 86. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at the Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Thompson and Rev. Lamar Hulvey officiating. Military Honors will follow in Sunset Memorial Park with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 1-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Flowers are being accepted or memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Mr. Hudgens was born on March 22, 1932 in Windsor, Missouri and spent the early years of his life there. He graduated from Windsor High School and joined the US Air Force where he served for 4 years. Mr. Hudgens then received his bachelor's degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles, LA. He was employed for over 30 years as a Forrester with the US Forest Service. Mr. Hudgens retired in 1984 and moved to Dothan. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. "PaPa" loved camping, fishing, traveling, and enjoyed watching racing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren, his great-great niece, Audrey and his K9 companion, Copper. Mr. Hudgens was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Bessie Bowers Hudgens and by his brother, Ray Bowers. Survivors include his wife, Betty Hulvey Hudgens; his children, Karen (Danny) Gilliland, Donna Jo Harrison, Gordan Dale (Sandra) Hudgens, Tammy Jones, Beckie (Marty) Goff, and Justin Hudgens; his grandchildren, Matthew (Skye) May, Jordan (Molly) Hand, Chris Hudgens and Gavin Goff; great-grandchildren, Landon May, Arrow May and Mary Ellis Hand; sisters, Mary Lou (Jim) Popeck and Annetta Gilmore; several nieces and nephews.
