Donald Joe Miller, affectionately known as Don to his friends and loved ones, passed away on January 25, 2025, at his home in Dothan, Alabama. Born on October 8, 1957, in Oklahoma, Don's journey through life was marked by his selfless nature, creative spirit, and loving heart.
Don's early years were spent in Louisiana, where he was raised by his late parents, Myron and Betty Lou Miller. After graduating from Spring Hill High School in 1975, he went on to pursue higher education at University of Louisiana Monroe, where his passion for science led him to obtain a Master's degree in Chemistry. His academic achievements set the stage for a fulfilling career that began at Great Southern in 1985 and continued at GA Pacific. Don dedicated over three decades of his life to his work at the paper mill before retiring in 2019, leaving behind a legacy of diligence and commitment.
In 1987, Don's life was enriched when he married his beloved wife, Rebecca Fontenot Miller. Together, they created a warm and welcoming home, filled with love and laughter, and shared with their cherished fur baby, Logan. Don's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he was a devoted husband, brother, and uncle. He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, his brothers, Larry Miller and his wife Linda, Wayne Miller and his wife Cathy, Mark Miller and his wife Michelle, and a host of adoring nieces and nephews who will miss his presence deeply.
Don's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He was an avid collector of records, marbles, and baseball cards, finding joy in the pursuit of rare and meaningful pieces. His love for science fiction and marble shows was well-known, and his marble collection was a testament to his enthusiasm for collectibles. Don was also a fan of comic books and went on to be part owner of Heroes for Hire, and he often shared his love for these stories with those around him, inspiring imagination and wonder. He also owned Popular Head Collectable online store where he and his wife sold their beloved trinkets and collectors items.
Those who knew Don will remember him as a man who lived by example. His selfless acts of kindness, whether big or small, touched the lives of many. His creative mind was always dreaming up new ideas, and his loving nature made him a friend to all. Don's absence will be profoundly felt, but his influence will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Don Miller was a man of many facets, each shining brightly and leaving an indelible mark on the world. As we say goodbye, we celebrate the time we were privileged to share with him and the countless ways he enriched our lives. Don's story is one of love, laughter, and a life well-lived, and he will be forever cherished in our memories.
A private family memorial service will be held to honor Don's life. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the charity of your choice in Don's honor.
