Dora Helen Kirkland Jackson, a resident of Dothan passed away on Friday, March 5, 2010 at Wesley Manor. She was 79.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at Covenant United Methodist Church with Dr. Hays McKay and Rev. Kyle Gatlin officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Helen was born on July 10, 1930 to Coy C. & Dora Simmons Kirkland. Her family moved to South Florida when she was very young. In her later years she lived in Graceville and graduated from Graceville High School in 1949. Her family later made their home in the New Providence Community of Houston County. She worked at Supreme Ice Cream Company in Dothan, where she met her future husband John Jackson. Helen also worked for General Telephone as an operator for a number of years and later assisted with the bookkeeping duties for Jackson Gas & Electric in its early years of operation. Helen was a member of Covenant United Methodist Church.In addition to her parents and her husband, she was predeceased by her brother James Duward Jimmy Kirkland.Survivors include a daughter Karla Jackson; a son Mike Jackson and his wife Myra; grandchildren, Freddie Jackson and his wife Caryn, Michele Harrison and her husband Jeffrey, Chris Brunson and her husband Byron; great-grandchildren, Justyn Jackson, Caitlyn Jackson, Summer Harrison, Brittany Harrison, Paige Brunson, Elizabeth Brunson; a brother Coy B. Kirkland of Monroeville, AL; several nieces and nephews also survive. Burial Date: January 1, 1970Visits: 0
