Dorothy Louise Hart

Dorothy Louise Hart, 76, a resident of Cottonwood, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 2 pm Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Matt Basford officiating. Burial will follow in Cottonwood City Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends from 6-8 pm Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hart was born November 9, 1936 in Port St. Joe, FL and lived there the early years of her life. She moved to Cottonwood in 1956 and resided there the remainder of her life. She was employed with the Houston County School System for several years retiring in 2000. Mrs. Hart loved gospel music, the Atlanta Braves, and she was an avid Alabama Football Fan. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church in Cottonwood.

Mrs. Hart was preceded in death by her husband C. J. Hart, her parents George and Dora Mae Dykes, a brother Buddy Dykes, and a sister Frances Ringer.

Survivors include her sons, Kenneth Hart of Cottonwood, and Joe Judy Hart of Headland; grandchildren, Joey Heidi Hart of Maplewood, NJ, Michael Turvin of Brooklyn, NY, Courtney Hart and EmilyAnne Hart of Cottonwood; great-grandchildren, Carter Hart and Gibson Hart; brothers and sisters, Johnny Dykes of Cottonwood, Phillip Dykes of Pansey, George Frankie Dykes of Winchester, VA,  Mary Rhymes of Wewahitchka, FL, and Bertha Davis of Port St. Joe, FL; several nieces and nephews also survive.

Serving as pallbearers will be Bobby Adams, Mark Basford, Benny Dykes, Garrett Tucker, Joey Hart, and Michael Turvin. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben Jackson and Ray Lee.

Burial Date: January 1, 1970
