Dorothy Lucy Mcneal

Dorothy Lucy McNeal, a resident of Dothan, Alabama, passed away on Monday, May 14, 2018, at her residence. She was 81. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at 10:30 am in Sunset Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Reynolds and Ronnie Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Cowarts Cemetery with Robert Byrd directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-7 pm on Wednesday evening. Dorothy was born on October 31, 1936 in Houston County, Alabama and lived most of her life in Dothan. She was a graduate of Dothan High School and went on to receive her nursing degree. She worked at Frazier Ellis Hospital before going on to General Hospital/SAMC where she was one of the first nurses in the 1950's. Dorothy later worked at Extendicare Nursing Home and Wesley Manor before her retirement. Dorothy ministered through the bus ministry and children's church at First Free Will Baptist Church, Eastside Free Will Baptist Church and New Beginning Church, touching the lives of many, many children. She was a member of First Free Will Baptist Church for over 35 years. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Eva Mae Fowler; infant son, Rickey Ellis McNeal; sister, Margie Johnson; and brother-in-law, Jimmy Johnson. Survivors include her husband, James McNeal; children, Cynthia (Jerry) Holloway, Tony (Robin) McNeal, Donna (Roger) Robertson and Lisa (Anthony) Wilson; nine grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
